Acquisition of Turkish Citizenship by Marriage for French Citizens
Dear visitor, welcome to our Acquisition of Turkish Citizenship by Marriage for French Citizens page. Article 16 of the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901 includes the conditions for acquiring Turkish citizenship by marriage. This law and the regulation regarding the implementation of the law contain the citizenship application conditions, procedures and principles for French nationals who are married to a Turkish citizen.
Conditions of Acquiring Turkish Citizenship by Marriage
Firstly, marrying a Turkish citizen does not directly entitle the French national to become a Turkish citizen. Marriage does not give a French national the right to reside in Turkey. These are all separate processes and must be managed properly. The conditions for acquiring Turkish citizenship by marriage are regulated in Article 16 of the Citizenship Law No. 5901. In accordance with the text of the relevant law, the French national must meet the following conditions in order to become a citizen through his Turkish citizen spouse:
French nationals can apply for citizenship to the governorships in their settlements if they meet the above conditions. In the event that the Turkish citizen spouse dies after the application, the condition in the 2nd order above, that is, the spouses living in a family union, is not sought. The foreign person can be a Turkish citizen if he/she fulfills the other conditions. However, foreign persons who acquire Turkish citizenship by marriage, if the marriage is decided to be annulled, if they separate amicably, they will continue to retain their Turkish citizenship.
